Detail

Pencil drawing, illustrating the content of my workshop closet. The outline of each object has been filled out by a detailed hatching technique.

‘Accumulation’, is series based on a drawn register of all my belongings. I pick the content of a container: a closet, a bag, a cabinet. I then draw the contour of each item from inside the container, on paper in a pattern, partly based on chance, partly on aesthetic choices. Afterwards, I fill out each contour with a hatching technique, reminiscent of x-rays. It’s a slow and quite meditative process. The intention is to evoke the idea of the objects that are in my possession. Despite the rather limited degree of recognisability of each contour, my intent is to offer just enough visual information to implicate the viewer in undertaking the task of identifying the absent objects. Currently I’m implementing this technique on module-drawings: I combine various smaller paper formats to create a large format drawing, which holds the potential of constantly changing format and size.
